Levitated: Exploration of Computation + Praystation

I’ve known about Levitated for a long time and I thought it would be a good entry here. Unfortunately I can’t really show much within the confines of the blog, as the projects are mainly interactive work made with Flash and visualizations of media, information and various other stimuli.

If you click on the Open Source link you can see numerous examples, just about all of which feature some sort of motion or interaction. Additionally you can get the source code, if you are so inclined, and play with the parameters. Granted, you have to have some knowledge of Actionscript, but it’s worthwhile if you’re interested in this sort of thing. Here are some screen captures of various projects:

A lot of this generative in nature and, even though it is dated, now, if you tried producing this by hand instead of with code, it would be insanely difficult, not to mention devoid of interactivity. So even though it is dated it is worth consideration to show powerful coding is. I would like to be able to do more work like this but it seems like I am very busy as it is. However, if you want to reach the higher levels of design with anything from After Effects to Maya or whatever else, you have to learn to take advantage of scripting.

Another site with similar, yet more esoteric, designs, can be viewed at Praystation.
