Form + Space

Since there was no specific assignment this week I decided to do what I often do and create something out of nothing just to explore space. I often think about the way buildings are designed to fit in an allotted space, as opposed to being designed to really interact with one another in the environment. So I made these forms as an exercise in imagining what separate projects might look like if they were planned together but occupied different spaces in a city. It’s rather amorphous and ambiguous but it was sketched with 2-point perspective.

Here is another one. I often try an exercise in which I have no plan, I begin, and then I try to recognize some form that emerges, serendipitous, and then I build on that. Before I figure out what I am doing I try turning the paper and viewing different angles, to see if anything stands out. I do this often in Illustrator, as well. Sometimes you don’t know what you’re looking for until you see it. The same thing works in music; sometimes sequencer accidents can lead to something that works great, that you never would have found had you gone strictly according to plan.
