Atari 1200XL Sketches

Atari Concept Sketches from the early 1980s

The uber-suave illustration you see above is what eventually became the Atari 1200XL. Today in class there was a brief note about techniques for sketching and it reminded me of these sketches from the Atari Museum.

These images are so awesome that I see the deigns almost as architecture. Imagine that these forms are not desktop computers but buildings that are  a few stories tall, casting long, beautiful angular shadows in which throngs of urban denizens go about their business.

What I appreciate about these sketches is just how much character can be conveyed with sleek, contrasting lines and minimal shading. Just these alone would make you want to own one.

My information is that these sketches were created by industrial designer Regan Cheng. The link at the top of this post provides many examples like these that I think are worth exploring.
