Shaka Hand Sketch

First let me tell you something funny. I’m not great at sketching human forms. As I was making this, I got about halfway through and I thought, this is looking pretty good, I better save it. And then I realized, oh, it’s paper, it’s already saved. A good sign I use computers a bit too much. Sort of like thinking Control Z in real life, which I also do. Anyway, I used to live in Hawaii and you can’t go to Waikiki in downtown Honolulu and throw a coconut without hitting a tourist shop that has one of these hands on a mug, a shirt, or a doormat or shaved into the side of a dog or whatever. Get da’kine one shaved dog, brah?

What I did was block out the rough geometric forms, with light strokes, and then once I felt like the shape was cohesive I started to fill in details and slight shadows. Here is the source:

Thanks for looking at my sketch. Hang loose, brah!
