Logo Sketch: Aperture Plaza (Center)

I came up with this before the semester started and when I heard this week’s assignment I thought, well, here we go, perfect. I think it’s self-explanatory. I have combined an aperture iris with the curved shape of the complex at Mesa Del Sol, with the aperture leaf pieces as different buildings. The arrangement also makes the A for Aperture. I know it’s Aperture “Center” but I really like the word “plaza”, and it works the same either way. If UNM would like to use this or have me develop it further then you know where to find me!

This was pretty straightforward to make, just a sketch and then reconstruct it in Illustrator. By hand, of course, no tracing allowed! Typically what I’ll do is get the basic form going in Illustrator and then make multiple copies and try out variations with type, color etc. Sometimes a logo takes forever or sometimes it just happens in your mind, instantly. This one happened instantly. I can easily envision this on a rock/sandstone face greeting visitors as they approach, and it would also look great large on the floor. I hope you like it!
