Week 2: iZotope Iris

This is a VST plugin for DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations). It enables the user to take audio samples and select only certain parts of the sound frequency, very similar to the way Photoshop allows you to select (Selection Tool or Magic Wand) areas of pixels. The application then analyzes your selection and enables playing it as you would other DAW instruments.

I like this because it enables you to create something musical out of almost any sound, and it really opens new doorways of creativity. To facilitate typical instrument and synth conventions the VST enables sound shaping via ADSR sound envelopes, LFOs, as well as effects. I’ve used it and it’s really great!
